Having Problems with the patch :(

Postby Elvenbane on Wed Oct 13, 2004 6:06 am

I'm having trouble patching WoW it craps up when it gets to 'World\Maps\Kalimdor\Kalimdor_33_31.adt' so I'm wondering if someone can send me a patched version of the file.

I'd suggest removing all mention of Blizzard, Battlenet, WoW and worldofwarcraft from your computer. Then download the 0.10. full install, and update to 0.11 & 0.12. That should get all checksums in order (not that yours aren't), and give you a clean fresh copy of WoW.

Other than that, post at the Tech forums-- make sure that you include your system specs-- and see what responses you get. There's a ton of great information for both PC and Mac in those forums. Lots of people continue to have system specific issues, so don't feel along, elven.

And lastly, even if you were able to get it patched and working, the servers are offline right now and will not be coming back up until approximately 6pm PST Friday. That's the projected time they'll be back online. I'd guess they'll be crashing until somtime Sat. or Sun. Yeah, I know, I'm a pessimist.

Anywho, hope that helps, elven.

Here's what I did Monday night...

Uninstalled WoW, Re-Installed WoW, Re-Applied the Patch.
Didn't work. Send an email to Blizz Tech Support. Tried Patching it over and over again, no luck (duh), Defragged with Norton System Works.

Tuesday, got an email fro Blizz saying that the dunno whats wrong but they think it might be a hardware thing. I doubt it, I havent had any similar problems and my HD is relatively new.

I'll try DLing the patch again to see if that works, but as far as the downloader is concerned mine is fine. FYI the file I have is exactly 294,929,789 bytes if someone wants to confirm. But I'll start another dl anyways.

If anyone wants I can also post the email from Blizz ;)

Make sure that you have no other applications running while _installing_ the patch, open whatever utility you need to disable or quit out hidden applications that are running on your machine.

That solved a lot of folks' issues with the patch not working right, or failing on certain files.

It may not solve your issue, but it might be something you've missed. I don't know, since I use a Mac, I'm just throwing out what I've read/ tried when I've had problems. One other thing might be trying different RAM configurations, just while patching.

Just finished attempting to patch with the new file I dl'd and guess what!

Blizzard BNUpdate v2.96 compiled on Oct 6 2004
Log created at 5:01 pm on 10/14/2004

This patch upgrades World of Warcraft from version 0.11.0.3925 to version 0.12.0.3988.

ERROR: unable to apply patch to file 'World\Maps\Kalimdor\Kalimdor_33_31.adt'

RESULT: Patch failed

I'll try doing it with my background apps shut off.

I guess it's a ram issue or something.

Try downloading the most recent complete build of the game. Beta 6 or something is the latest I believe and try patching it. This fixed many issues for me as I still was working on a beta2 install.

did you try removing that ram stick that returned errors, and try patching again? Not sure I understood whether or not you removed it. If not, try pulling that stick and patch again....

Otherwise, I'm pretty much out of suggestions for you, bro.

All of my RAM returned errors, but only on that 1 test.
But I know that the RAM works or my comp wouldnt...

I sent an email back to blizz asking them when the new full downloader will be out.

But it looks like I might miss the 3 week cutoff for getting the votes so I'm not gonna be joining BL for a month or so
